High Converting Lead Captures

May 21, 2018 by Lindsay Shearer

So, you are getting traffic to your website or blog: how can you convert that traffic into leads for your email list? This article analyzes the basic and advanced options to maximize the number of visitors that you become potential customers by learning to get clear on your email capture & lead capture strategy!

Basic Lead Capture

To start collecting leads from your website, a basic minimum strategy involves simply adding a voluntary subscription form to your site. List services such as Aweber, GetResponse, and MailChimp provide the code you need to do this. Usually, it is about selecting your list, creating or choosing a form, and then copying and pasting the code into your website. Ideally, you would have the form on most of the pages on your website to increase the chances of your visitors seeing you when they arrive.

However, this is not enough by itself for visitors to complete their details and click on the button to subscribe. You must make an adequate offer that encourages you to do so. At the most basic level, this could be as simple as asking them to join your newsletter to receive periodic updates. This may generate some subscribers, but it is unlikely that you will maximize the number of visitors that you become potential customers. So what can you do? This is where you need an adequate.

Lead magnet

A lead magnet is something that you offer to your target market to encourage them to join your list. The possibilities are endless, but may include:

  • An electronic book
  • A downloadable report
  • Access to a restricted content area
  • A discount code
  • Your latest catalog
  • An appointment
  • One or more videos or audio files
  • A free consultation.

So now, instead of simply inviting visitors to join their list of ‘updates,’ which might not sound very tempting, now it is offering them something of more immediate value. Combined with a suitable copy and a captivating image, your conversions are likely to increase. How about increasing conversions even more? Let’s go to more.

Advanced lead capture

To maximize lead conversions, you need something more dynamic to attract the attention of visitors. This involves opt-in devices such as:

  • Pop-up lightboxes – This is where a pop-up window appears with the subscription form displayed on the content of the page.
  • Smartbars – You will see a colored bar at the top or bottom of the screen and an offer to subscribe.
  • Welcome Mats – when you get to a website, this takes over the whole screen with an optional offer, and you usually have to discard or scroll down to see the content.

These types of devices can dramatically increase conversions, simply because they are:

  • So striking
  • Generally, it is much more visually appealing than the standard forms that offer the services on the list.

Having a website that generates results lies mainly in developing an adequate sales funnel that fits your business and the type of market you are targeting. A funnel (sales funnel) refers to tracing well the different stages of the sale process of your consumers, defining all the tools, channels and content that you need to offer at each stage to accompany and encourage the consumer to buy you. In this case, we are talking about a sales funnel for your website. What happens when someone arrives at your site? Or better yet, what do you want to happen?

The sales or conversion funnel is a metaphor used in marketing or business administration to refer to the phases of the sale. It is the process by which potential sales opportunities are qualified and selected to turn them into real opportunities that end in real transactions.

Sales Funnel vs. Website

Simply put, a website is a glorified business card displayed online. It doesn’t do much without a bigger plan. A sales funnel is a process and plan that directs traffic through a system that results in paying customers. If you’re going to spend good money on a website, you might as well get a return on that cash by making it into a functional sales and marketing tool.

What looks like a sales funnel

From the first contact with your company to the purchase, a lead goes through different phases of your funnel until their email capture happens and then they are actually a lead capture. This path differs for each company, depending on the target audience, the sector and the products or services offered. However, each sales funnel generally consists of four more modest key moments, often referred to as microconversions . These four moments contribute to your ultimate goal: sales. The term conversion is generally used to refer to the actual sale. To summarize, all microconversions of your sales funnel result in a macroconversion.

The funnel is nourished by marketing actions to generate demand and the sales force’s own prospecting actions on its portfolio of clients or prospects. These opportunities are qualified by investigating the actual situation of the alleged client and their possibilities and purchase intention and finally culminating in the sale phase with the construction and launch of the offer, negotiation, closing of the sale and delivery of the solution sold. To maintain the process efficiently, each phase must be fed and managed with specific tools, and the entire process with a global vision of sales funnel management.  Learning to focus on high converting email capture & lead capture is the main way to see fruit in your funnel and on your web page.

An optimized sales process thanks to the sales funnel

You have to know what your customers are, what they need and which methods work best to convince them of your product or service. Identify the different micro conversions preceding a purchase, and stimulate your leads to take action. By combining all these insights, you’ll be able to vastly refine your sales process. A sales funnel allows you to determine who your customers are, what they need and what methods are most effective in convincing them to adopt your product or service. Define the microconversions that precede a purchase and encourage your prospects to act. By combining all this information, you can greatly refine your sales process.

In conclusion

If you want to start growing your email list by turning your website visitors into potential customers, this article shows you exactly how to approach it through high converting email capture & lead capture. If everything is new to you, simply start with something basic, such as a participation form provided by your list service. This accustoms you to the general process of capturing lead. Then, aim to improve what you do over time, perhaps moving to one of the available software solutions, and notice how your potential customers increase.
